China is run by a un-democratic regime and spends billions controlling their people sometimes violently.
Harper “HAS” to do business with China, but it makes many Canadians uneasy at the thought. China sells us $4 worth of goods for every $1 we sell back to them. This trip is mainly about oil and trying to build a pipeline to sell oil to china.China is now becoming an outright leader in the oil sands and many are concerned about the Chinese Labour where 2 workers have died in the past.
Canada wants more access to the Chinese markets on better terms, when Chinese companies want out resources and want to control every thing around them.
When Harper was elected he said “he didn’t think Canadians wanted him to sell out to China to achieve business ends”. Whether he can do this is what the trip to Beijing is all about.
